Fancy Friday #80: Water Colour Nails

Fabulous challenge this week, another technique I haven't had time to explore yet, so it was nice finally to get on the band wagon :D.

It is really easy nail art, since it only requires some nail polish, a nail art brush and some acetone.

I used Rica Wipe Out as base colour and the following polishes for the watercolour spludges: Cult Nails Devious Nature, Tied Up, Feel Me Up and Vicious. And Essie Mojito Madness for the green touches.

I dotted some polish - one colour at a time - on the nail and the SOAKED the brush in acetone and just placed the brush in the middle of the dots and drew a little with it, continued to the next nail and repeated the process. When I'd finished the last nail, the first was dry enough to get to work with the next colour.

As you can see this mani is REALLY busy, but somehow I really like it!!

Remember to check out the other water colour manis from the rest of the Fancy Friday girls.

52 Week Pick 'n' Mix: Two Colour Teal Gradient.

Welcome all to the new Nail Art Challenge here on the blog. As a member of Crumpet's Nail Tarts on Facebook I've signed up for this awesome new challenge that will replace Golden Oldie Thursday. It incorporates both of the previous challenges the Nail Tarts have done: TriPolish Tuesday and Golden Oldie Thursday.

There will be two prompts each week which you can choose to combine in one post or you can do both in two separate posts - or just choose one. There will always be a colour prompt, which you can choose if you want to use a golden oldie polish. Furthermore we will be able to post any day in the week that suits us.

This week the two prompts are:
  • Two Colour Gradient
  • Teal

I have chosen to combine the two and make a two colour teal gradient using Cult Nails polishes - both of which have been in my collection for a considerable amount of time.

The baby blue shimmer polish is Manipulative:

And the teal glass fleck polish is Let Me Fly:

I decided to try a new-to-me type of gradient which is called scaled gradient. Since my nail beds are small it was really difficult for me to get a proper scaling going but somehow it is actually visible on most nails.

I've run out of NailVinyls so I had to use tape and hot damn I'd forgotten how much a biotch it can be to center the bloody pieces!!! Oh btw Glisten and Glow top coat shrinks Cult Nails polishes.

And I couldn't leave it well enough alone :D - I had to stamp it as well. I used Kiko Mirror Metallics 625 Grass Green, though funnily enough it leans blue here - go figure...

I used Messy Mansion plate MM44 which is the most gorgeous lace plate!

I really look forward to sharing my manis with you guys - and remember to take a look at this wonderful assortment of teal manis and gradients.

Golden Oldie Thursday #23: Red

Those of you that have followed me for a while know that red isn't a colour I wear much. I do have a select few that have come into my collection either as gifts or because I found them awesome :D

A couple of years back I was very much in to Cult Nails (a passion that was reignited recently) and bought entire collections back then. When Coco, one of Maria's daughters came up with five gorgeous colours that was released as Coco's Untamed Collection - one of which was a most amazing red - I felt compelled to own them all.

Cult Nails Annaliscious

Annaliscious was named after Coco's best friend - and is the most juicy red polish I own.

It has the most amazing golden glassfleck finish I have ever seen, and I have been constantly looking at my nails these past two days I've worn it. It'll be almost a shame to remove this mani.

The glitter topper on my thumb and pinkie is a one of Red Dog Designs Crooner polishes called Hey! Jealous Lover. An amazing array of glitters, I believe there are more than 20 different glitters in this bottle - some of them are red hearts!!

I used a MoyouLondon plate for the roses on my index and middle fingers. And then I left my ring finger alone ;)

I always get surprised when I wear red - it makes me quite happy :D

Fancy Friday #37: Waterfall Mani

Friday again and that means another fancy one :D. I must confess I've never tried this look before though they've been all over the nail community after Sammy from the Nailasaurus made a tutorial on it. And I can relate to why. This is probably one of THE easiest nail art techniques to master and you get an outstanding look on your nails.

Remember this is my first, and it has its faults but that being said with some practice this could look spectacular. And that is before I have even begun to think of different colour combinations. So a total win here!

For this look I used last week's FF mani as base and used three Sinful Colors polishes and one Sea Lore Polish.

Sinful Colors Under 18:

Sinful Colors Fig:

Sinful Colors Rich in Heart:

Sea Lore Arctic Otter:

This is definitely not my last waterfall mani, I really love that the possibilities are almost endless with this look!!

Remember to check out the colour combinations from the rest of the Fancy Friday team.

Fancy Friday #36: Naked

Happy New Year to all of you, my lovely readers, I hope you all had a wonderful evening with lots of festiveness and fireworks.

The first post of the year is also the first Fancy Friday challenge of the year - and this is a welcome one since I have fallen ill with a terrible cold and a debilitating cough - which means less energy to do my nails. So I took the easy way out and found one of my few nude polishes in my huge stash.

Cult Nails Cruisin' Nude is quite gorgeous but I still think I look a bit weird with colours like this - though the shimmer really sets this one apart!

This picture is with flash - unfortunately it makes the polish look way more yellow than it really is, but it does show the shimmer in the bottle.

Unfortunately the shimmer wasn't willing to play without flash - but the following pics are colour correct:

Make sure to check out how the other girls interpret this week's challenge.

Fancy Friday #29: Copy That, Copy Cat

So today's challenge is copying someone else's manicure.

That was an easy choice. I love almost everything Jacki from Adventures in Acetone is doing and I've wanted to do one of her mani's in like forever. But I never got around to it so here was the perfect opportunity. Originally I was going to copy one of her animal manicures because they are way cute, but then I saw this in my bloglovin feed:

Besides this picture she also had an easy step-by-step tutorial that you can follow here.

You guys know how much I love Doctor Who and I think Adipose is soooo cute. So I just had to do this.

Take in to consideration that I rarely do nail art with my non dominant hand (and I thought this was a good way to practice my right hand) then it is actually not that bad, I think.

I used Cult Nails Time Traveller(!!!!) as base colour, nails inc. floral street for the Adipose, Cult Nails Nevermore for eyes and mouth and lastly I just needed some glitter as well and put on Sea Lore Beluga Blizzard on thumb and pinkie before I matted it.

Of course they are not nearly as perfect as Jacki's but I am actually quite satisfied with the result.

I urge you to give Jacki a follow she's an awesome nail artist and her tutorials are so easy to follow that you think while you do it: why didn't I try this one before?

And before you move on you should check out the other girls and what they've been up to with their copy catting skills.

Man er vel Doctor Who fan ;)

Fancy Friday #12: Summer Mani/Pedi

Summer has really decided to join us here in Denmark - sun is shining and temperature is rising. So it is very fitting that this week's FF mani is a summer mani.

I've been trying to do fan brush nail art a couple of times, but couldn't get the hang of it until one of my lacquer friends informed me that it would be a good idea to wet the brush a bit to get proper brush separation :D

So with this in mind and this video in front of me I got started.

I have been looking at my Nail Junkie Green Apple for some time now wanting to use it for nail art, it is a lovely neon green shimmer jelly that dries with a satiny finish. The colour is really hard to capture and I have been totally unable to represent the Greenness of this polish - in my bottle pictures it comes off too yellow. And I couldn't even colour correct it in my photo editing programme :O

I also wanted something sunny and something water like, so I chose Catrice Twist of Lemonand China Glaze Custom Kicks to get that feeling:

Awesome yellow golden shimmer

I used Apple as base layer and then I fan brushed Custom Kicks first. I was afraid Twist of Lemon would "drown" if I'd started with it so that ended up as the second polish. I only did one "layer" of each in order not to cover up Apple.

Oh and somehow those hearts just begged to be part of this ;) I made them with Cult Nails Annalicious

I've felt like going on holiday for the past week just because of these nails...

Luckily my summer holiday starts today ;)

Fancy Friday #4: Animal Print

Welcome to Fancy Friday, the collaboration challenge between a bunch of Danish bloggers. This week's challenge got me very excited, have had a sponge gradient idea that I thought I would try out - and as it turned out it went extremely well with some leopard spots :D

Since sun has finally decided to visit more than just some minutes a day, I went in total summer mode and grabbed two neon colours and a lovely yellow from Cult Nails called Feel Me Up. The neons are Sinful Colors Dream On, a very pink neon that shows up purple characteristics as soon as a camera comes near it, and nails inc. portobello that is coral-orangey, depending on light. Both neons dry matte as most neons do.

I made the spots with China Glaze Purr-fectly Plum and a-england Camelot.

I  started out with oiling up the area around my nails, being careful not to hit the nails themselves. Then I cut a triangular make-up sponge to match the width of my broadest nail and painted diagonal stripes on it. Then I lined up the sponge to match my nails and sponged away. Then I randomly dotted with China Glaze and took a fine nail art brush and painted c's around the dots with the a-england colo. Lastly I filled in with random black spots.

It was a real mess but removing the polish on my fingers was easier than usual because of the cuticle oil. But as you can see Dream On is VERY pigmented and I had to accept defeit after trying my damnedest to remove it all. Especially my cuties looks a right mess :D. The pigmentation on my fingers was still visible after a day...

These are crazy gorgeous summer nails!!! And incidentally it's only the second nail art mani that I am completely satisfied with, EVER.

Challenge Week 42: "Pink 4 Breast Cancer Awareness" Mani.

I did these at the same time as week 41 and couldn't seem to find a creative way of doing this mani so instead I grabbed and untried Cult Nails polish, Devious Nature and painted my nails.

But then I thought I'd at least should do something so I dotted a bow on my ring finger with nails inc power pink:

I usually don't grab for the few pinks I own, but this one is quite gorgeous...definitely a polish I should wear more.
