Fancy Friday #87: One Colour - Three Shades

My colour choice is purple - and I have three purple KIKO polishes that I've been aching to try together :).

KIKO 315

KIKO 331

KIKO 291 leans more red in real life, you can see it in the pattern on my nail, but I had to choose between colour correct stamp or colour correct bottle since it was neigh impossible to get the bottle colour correct and not loose the colour of the stamp. So I chose the stamp instead of the bottle.

KIKO 291
I did multi colour stamping over white.

It looks a bit squished in some places but I really don't care, I think these colours go so well together that I can't seem to work up any regrets here :D

It's funny how you realise there are dust and other fun things on your fingers when you see your nails blown up like this but never when you take the actual pics ;).

52 Week Pick 'n' Mix: Two Colour Teal Gradient.

Welcome all to the new Nail Art Challenge here on the blog. As a member of Crumpet's Nail Tarts on Facebook I've signed up for this awesome new challenge that will replace Golden Oldie Thursday. It incorporates both of the previous challenges the Nail Tarts have done: TriPolish Tuesday and Golden Oldie Thursday.

There will be two prompts each week which you can choose to combine in one post or you can do both in two separate posts - or just choose one. There will always be a colour prompt, which you can choose if you want to use a golden oldie polish. Furthermore we will be able to post any day in the week that suits us.

This week the two prompts are:
  • Two Colour Gradient
  • Teal

I have chosen to combine the two and make a two colour teal gradient using Cult Nails polishes - both of which have been in my collection for a considerable amount of time.

The baby blue shimmer polish is Manipulative:

And the teal glass fleck polish is Let Me Fly:

I decided to try a new-to-me type of gradient which is called scaled gradient. Since my nail beds are small it was really difficult for me to get a proper scaling going but somehow it is actually visible on most nails.

I've run out of NailVinyls so I had to use tape and hot damn I'd forgotten how much a biotch it can be to center the bloody pieces!!! Oh btw Glisten and Glow top coat shrinks Cult Nails polishes.

And I couldn't leave it well enough alone :D - I had to stamp it as well. I used Kiko Mirror Metallics 625 Grass Green, though funnily enough it leans blue here - go figure...

I used Messy Mansion plate MM44 which is the most gorgeous lace plate!

I really look forward to sharing my manis with you guys - and remember to take a look at this wonderful assortment of teal manis and gradients.

Golden Oldie Thursday #34: Purple

...And another week went by :D and here is last week's GOT challenge mani - the prompt was purple.

I wanted to do a bubble mani - or whatever they are called, but I failed miserably so I just took the easy way out and stamped on top of it :D.

I ordered some Messy Mansion plates this summer and one was a lace plate - absolutely gorgeous and I decided it would save my failed mani. And it did ;)

I used China Glaze Spontaneous, China Glaze Grape Juice, Zoya Danii and Zoya Hope. And I stamped with Kiko 621.

I absolutely adore this mani - you can see the bubbles peeping out from the lace pattern and it works!!

Fancy Friday #59: Geometrical

Today's FF challenge made me revisit a type of nail art I usually use tape for but this time I decided to do free hand: colour  blocking :D.

These pics are rather self explanatory I think :D

KIKO 340 Light Blue

KIKO 339 Cornflower

KIKO 386 Light Pastel Blue

KIKO 385 Pastel Blue

And remember to check out how the rest have interpreted today's challenge :)

Golden Oldie Thursday #19: Texture

This challenge turned out to pose a bigger problem than I initially thought. And here is why: I got on the texture train a little late which means that I never got into caviar manis, feather or velvet. But texture polishes caught my fancy around this time last year - I got one from P2 gifted to me and liked it so much that I bought a couple of Kiko Sugar Mats in June or July. So the only "older" texture polishes I have are Kiko 643 Spring Green and Kiko 639 Golden Mandarin.

I decided to do a texture gradient with them just because. But I wanted to do a little bit more and then thought of my nailvinyls that one of my wonderful friends have donated to me. Which meant I had to decide on a base layer. And I thought that yellow would fit the bill, so I found Catrice Twist of Lemon, an LE polish from the Coolibri Collection.

For those of you that fight with tape manicures: Fret no more 'cause these babies make it so much easier!! They don't tear the layers underneath, and as you can see they lay straight down on your nail. They don't have any adhesive on them so they are easy to remove with no hassle at all!!

I actually thought that the mess I made would be annoying to remove but surprisingly enough clean up was easier than normally. I did get very glittery fingers, though. :D

I found the texture polishes were easier to get a good result with when doing gradients and I am definitely going to do them again!!

Fancy Friday #18: Purple is Purfect

So everything has been crazy busy in my life, as per usual and that also means I had the mani ready and done but didn't get time to write up this post. But it is not of lack of trying. See I've got this new phone that takes decent pictures and I got Blogger on it - so I've been trying to get it done that way. But since I can't set it in html mode it is no good for my FF post since I need html access for them.

So what I'm doing right now is write up this post on the computer and adding the phone pics from here. Hopefully the pics will be satisfying enough for you :D

I wanted to try out a skittlette mani, I'm quite fascinated by how much you can fill in before it tips the scales. For this I used FeverLacquer Violent Sweet on my thumb and pinkie, Illamasqua Poke with Illamasqua Babtiste lines drawn with a nail art brush, and Kiko 331 striped with GOSH Misty Mauve and fan brushed Girly Bits Daddy's Little Girl on top of that.

I'm quite happy with this - and I love purple so this challenge was awesome for me ;)

Hopefully you guys liked it as well - there are more to come, I think.

Fancy Friday #5: Glitterbomb Celebration

Well as it says Glitterbomb it is - and I sure do celebrate :D

I did a combo of two different indie polish glitter toppers and two KIKO polishes.

Meet KIKO 330 Lilac and Red Dog Designs Here Comes the Parade and Candy Lacquer Garden of Love and KIKO 390 Light Green :

In order to get this result I did THREE layers of the glitters - I guess you could limit yourself to two layers, but after all this is supposed to be a Glitter Celebration :D

I am a total glitter ho and manicures like this makes me happy - I know, I'm definitely not quite sane when it comes to nail polish...

I made a macro of my thumb so you can get an idea of how awesome this polish is - so many things going on. You can see the flower but what you don't see is the butterfly just underneath it :)

I love circle glitter so when I realised Here Comes the Parade was filled with them I almost squeed ;)

Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness. A Blogger Collaboration post

I'm a little late to the party but since this is for a good cause I decided to contribute anyway.

A couple of years ago we had an 18-year old boy working with us in the film archive for two months. We pride ourselves of being an open minded work place (one of the archivists suffers from Cerebral Palsy) and to be working with us turned out great for him. Some of the job functions are rather repititive and systematised and furthermore we are a happy and caring bunch of people who want all our coworkers to feel at home. He suffered from Aspergers Syndrome and wanted to see if he would eventually be able to master some kind of job position suited for him. When he left us he expressed that being with us had made him decide to apply for a dedicated high school that specialises in working with youths suffering from Aspergers. Us being open minded helped him on his way and that is why autism awareness is important - if we "healthy" people stay open minded we are more likely to help the "less healthy" in finding something that is meaningful to them and will make their life a little less difficult.

Since blue has been chosen as the colour to signify autism awareness nail bloggers are donning their blues to support the cause.

I've seen Reciprocal Sponge Gradient manis floating around on nail blogs and thought I'd try it but just do it a little differently. Therefore my tape stripes are asymmetrical but I think they ended up being only so-so:

I've had some Kiko's sitting in my untried drawer and three of them were blue so the decicsion on which polish brand to use for this mani was an easy one to make.

I apologise for the rather poorly clean-up. I'd forgotten to wrap up my fingers so I ended up with nail polish all over - and it being highly pigmented blues you can imagine how easy clean-up actually was :P

Kiko 339 Cornflower, Kiko 385 Pastel Blue, Kiko 337 Periwinkle Violet.

Autism Facts:
Autism Spectrum Disorder ASD is a range of neurodevelopment disorders, characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restrictive, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior.  Autistic Disorder sometimes referred to as autism is the most severe form of ASD while other conditions along the spectrum include a milder form known as Asperger Syndrome.

Although ASD varies significantly in character and severity it occurs in all ethnic and socioeconomic groups and affects every age group.

Males are four times more likely to develop ASD than females

Some common signs of ASD are:
Focusing on one item and excluding all others for prolonged periods of time

Become both withdrawn and indifferent to social interaction

Failure to respond to one's name or make eye contact

Many children follow patterns of twirling, rocking and even destructive behavior such as banging their head or biting.

Children with characteristics of ASD may also have conditions such as epileptic seizures, Tourette's Syndrome, attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, and Fragile X Syndrome which causes mental retardation.

Because ASD varies in severity and symptoms it is not uncommon for it to go on unrecognized.

Currently scientists do not know exactly causes ASD although it is likely that both genetics and environment do play a role.

Some therapies and treatments have helped with the severity of symptoms in some individuals, sometimes symptoms improve with age, but as of right now there is no cure for ASD.

To support Autism Awareness Month some of my fellow bloggers have banded together to get the word out and Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness!
