Fancy Friday #80: Water Colour Nails

Fabulous challenge this week, another technique I haven't had time to explore yet, so it was nice finally to get on the band wagon :D.

It is really easy nail art, since it only requires some nail polish, a nail art brush and some acetone.

I used Rica Wipe Out as base colour and the following polishes for the watercolour spludges: Cult Nails Devious Nature, Tied Up, Feel Me Up and Vicious. And Essie Mojito Madness for the green touches.

I dotted some polish - one colour at a time - on the nail and the SOAKED the brush in acetone and just placed the brush in the middle of the dots and drew a little with it, continued to the next nail and repeated the process. When I'd finished the last nail, the first was dry enough to get to work with the next colour.

As you can see this mani is REALLY busy, but somehow I really like it!!

Remember to check out the other water colour manis from the rest of the Fancy Friday girls.

Fancy Friday #71: Inspired by Autumn

Here we are more than halfway through September and we are almost having an indian summer here in Denmark. Warm, sunny days where wearing more than a t-shirt and shorts will have you brake out in sweat :D.

Which makes this week's Fancy Friday challenge quite funny as it really is nothing like Autumn yet ;). Except from the leaves. Everywhere they have started to curl and change colour so I took my inspiration from that mix of orange, brown and green in varying stages.

The green base colour is Essie Sew Psyched, I love the colour and the formula is great with this one - it's almost a one coater.

This is Halloween, an awesome glitter topper from Dollish Polish

And the ever lovely Crunchy Leaves from Girly Bits. It is exquisite and I love that orangey-dark brown-copperish colour I get with it when I use it without undies. I must say I rarely use polishes if I have to use 3+ layers to get it opaque - but for this (and a couple of others in my collection) I am willing to do almost anything, that's how gorgeous I think it is!!!!

A little stamping on the thumb to give the mani that extra autumnal feel. I used Messy Mansion plate no. 16 and a copper shimmer stamping polish from Dashica.

Oh, and a macro shot of the stamping pattern.

And remember to check out the rest of the Fancy Friday bloggers to see their Autumn inspiration :).

Golden Oldie Thursday #29: Holographic

So here is the first of my many challenge manis that I just kept postponing.

Yay!! One of my favourite polish finishes was part of the GOT polish challenge!!! Too bad I was holidaying in Sweden and totally forgot to bring an old linear holo polish. I did bring Essie Carnival though so after the initial annoyance I got going with the polishes that I've actually brought.

I decided to use nails inc. hyde park gate as base for this and then glitter topping it all :D

I stamped my index finger with Vivid Lacquer plate 019 - I used a Konad lilac polish that I've had for a long time, but it really didn't give the colour pay off I was hoping for. I ended up finishing it off with a layer of Carnival.

I topped my middle and ring finger with Lynnderella Bibbety Bobbity Boo Blue and then topped it up further with Carnival :D.

And in order for thumb and pinkie to not feel left out I did two layers of Carnival for good measure :D

And an out-of-focus version to underline the holographic glitters:

Stay tuned for more challenges ;).

Fancy Friday #64: Cloud Mani

When you google: Cloud nail art, you will most likely find pictures and tutorials for the type of mani that I have done in this post - but this week's FF challenge was actually free to interpretation...perhaps I should have done something else for this mani is at best very basic...

Oooohhh, Bubbles!!

My middle finger suffered a break before we went camping in week 28 - luckily I was able to tame it for almost two weeks. These were done last week and it wasn't until Sunday I removed this mani and then cut my nails down. The bumpy lump on my middle finger nail is where that particular break was...

Essie Mojito Madness, nails inc. hyde park gate and Sinful Colors Dream On made for a quite interesting combination.

Though I did get compliments for it I am not very happy with this mani, but I do know that it will be recreated together with my Hubbie's grand niece - she will be joining us here in Sweden tomorrow and we have decided she needs to try this (she still doesn't know) ;)

Fælles Fredag er i denne uge Cloud mani. Ved en hurtig google søgning finder man min type mani vældig godt repræsenteret - der har dog været fri fortolkning, hvilket i også vil kunne se hos nogle af de andre bloggere :)

Golden Oldie Thursday #11: Ruffle Mani

I have a lot of Essie polishes that more than fit the bill for this challenge. Mostly because I'm not too excited about the formula. The old ones are rather thin and runny and they also have the thin brush which I am not a big fan of. But since this particular challenge doesn't require the brush I thought I'd give it a go.

My right hand was occupied with my St. Paddys mani so I did it on my left which means a lot of wobbliness, since I had to use my non-dominant hand - and somehow the polish ended up pooling at my fingertips of all places and making it look like I failed at applying gel nails :D.

As you can see the ruffles are less than properly aligned :D.

Polishes used for this mani: Pretty Edgy, Turquoise and Caicos, Mojito Madness, Greenport, Sew Psyched and Going Incognito.

I need to try this technique again with my dominant hand just to make sure that it can be done and look more clean than this...quite messy I think.

Do take some time and look at the other ruffle manicures - I've spotted a couple already that I need to study closer to help me with my next try ;)

Lynnderella Attitude Adjust-mint

I have a little minty gem to show you, one that I have fallen totally in love with: Lynnderella's Attitude Adjust-mint, a lovely pale mint coloured polish filled with shimmer, glitter and happiness.

After seeing swatches on her own blog, I thought I would try to swatch it with some different pastel to medium green colours, just to see how different it would look.

I have used the following colours:

Thumb: No base colour
Index: Revlon Minty
Middle: nails inc Hyde Gate Park
Ring: Jordana Mint Candy
Little: Essie Greenport

One coat base colour, two coats Attitude Adjust-mint.

All pictures here are taken in indirect sunlight:

Pardon my dry cuticles - winter is at full throttle here in Denmark, and my hands suffer dearly.

I had an accident two seconds after applying polish on my thumb, but didn't realise it until too late.

Ooops, had an encounter with a film can earlier, so my index suffered a minor chip.

And clean up obviously wasn't my first priority after applying :D
As with many of Lynnderella polishes it takes some practice before you get the hang of applying them properly. The formula was on the thick side and because of the glitter density it takes patience and good application skills. Though I have been doing my nails for quite some time now, I still find I lack in those departments - but then it is good for me I have some more to practice with.
