Golden Oldie Thursday #32: On White Base

As soon as I saw Ms. Osborne in this dress I knew I wanted to do some nail art inspired by it - and then I realised that one of the August GOT challenge manis were going to be On a White Base...

Here is what I came up with - using nails inc. floral street as undies for Sealore Polish Beluga Blizzard. I free handed the time glass shape on my middle and ring finger and then taped the lower part. Then I put some black polish on a makeup sponge and just dapped away gently.

I cut out some triangular shapes that I taped on my little finger and dapped with a sponge applied with black polish.

On my index I used the "other" side of the triangular shapes I cut out, so my entire nail was covered with tape, except for the triangles - and dapped some black nail polish there as well ;)

Lastly I made a sort of yinyang swirl - it sort of seemed appropriate...

Hope you enjoyed these - I had a blast making them ;).

Full Moon over Friday the 13th

As the more perceptive of you might have realised by now this is...*stops channelling Rowan Atkinson*...Friday the 13th. A date traditionally connected with superstition - but also dread due to the famous slasher movie with the same title ;).

Some of my lacquerfriends and I decided to do a group post today - because besides it being friday the 13th there is also a full moon tonight. Which won't happen again in...a long time. Next time June the 13th is on a friday WITH a full moon is in 2098!!! So what to do?

I got thinking and the very first polish that popped in to my head was Ninja Polish Howling Blue Moon, a Glow-in-the-Dark, glittery blue awesome polish with loads of half moon glitters in it. And immediately after that thought I went: Ooooh I have Pretty Serious Crystal Lake!!! So there was the base for my mani.

And since I thought they needed something more - I got my stamping gear ready and here is what I came up with:

Howling Blue Moon on thumb and middle finger. Crystal Lake on ring and pinkie. A-England Camelot on index.

I used three of my Dashica XL SDP plates for the stamped images: 53, 92 and 93 and used a-england Camelot for the black base on my index finger.

If you would like to join us here is the inlinkz code. We would love to see what you come up with. If you don't have a blog, feel free to share it on my Facebook Page.

Happy belated St. Patricksday!!

I haven't celebrated St. Paddys since I studied in England over 10 years ago. It was fun and since I love Irish beer it was a blast. So to remind myself of all the fun I had I decided to get in on this year's celebration - and here is what I did.

I started out with this basic mani and had it all planned out. At least I thought so. But when it came to stamping the pot'o'gold on my ring finger I suddenly remembered I had thought of painting one of my nails gold.

A lot of facepalms later I got myself together and started stamping. And then I got to the Claddagh and realised I still hadn't gotten it all together. So I topped the middle finger with Ninja Polish Shillelagh and was good to go.

Last year I bought some plates from Messy Mansion one of which was this St. Patricksday plate. It is very versatile and though I will only get to use it once a year I'm still happy I bought it :)

I used Camelot for the pot'o'gold and should probably have used my Black stamping polish though that one isn't always a guarantee for a clear transfer either.

And these were the polishes used for this mani:

Golden Oldie Thursday #10: Purple

Yay, one of my favourite colours is part of this GOT polish post. I love purple nail polish and we've had some amazing weather here the past week. So I decided to do some holo nail art.

One of my favourite Boutique Brand polishes is a-england. Adina creates amazing polishes with flawless application and buttery formula. They are one coaters and dries amazingly fast - you see why I love them? Lady of the Lake was part of my very first purchase from a-england back in february 2011 and I haven't worn it since I tried it the first day I got it.

Another Boutique Brand I love is RBL and I have a lot of them. Some of them can be problematic to apply, but the two beauties I chose for this mani applied like butter - they are Purple Haze and Insouciant.

Then I thought I'd spice it all up a bit. I applied Girly Bits Twitterpated on Lady of the Lake. It is not meant to be a french tip  but I realise it looks like a failed attempt at that :D. Then I decided to stamp roses on Purple Haze using Hits no Olimpo Dionisio.

Here is an example of how different polishes react differently with the same top coat. It is THE FIRST time I've had shrinkage with my Dior gel top coat - apparently some RBL's don't like it. I'm wearing RBL Insouciant on my index and RBL Purple Haze on my pinkie and thumb. The shrinkage on Insouciant is out of this world, I have NEVER had this much shrinkage with any top coat within less than 24 hours. Though I must say I was at the bottom of my bottle of gel coat and it was somewhat thicker than normal. But still...I do know that RBL can be fickle with top and base coat, I can't use Dior ridge filler either, they will NEVER dry. Hmm, maybe it is a Dior/RBL conflict...

Like I said the shrinkage is out of this world:

The stamped roses didn't really pop, but I don't mind they looked lovely anyway ;)

Insouciant                  Purple Haze                 Dionisio     Lady of the Lake    Twitterpated

I hope you all enjoyed these purple beauties, I really loved getting them back on my fingers :)

Fancy Friday #33: Red Rocks

Christmas is getting closer and Fancy Friday is all about this during December. Surprisingly I seem to want to wear red all the time these days - but it is one specific red in my stash I want to wear: a-england Perceval. I never thought I'd say it but I am in love with that colour! It is a perfect red for me and a one coater! Even though there is a tendency to brush strokes due to its metallic like finish, it is so worth it, the colour payoff is beyond incredible.

So it is the base for my mani for this Fancy Friday:

It called out for something and I decided on the candy canes on my Moyou Christmas Collection 03 stamping plate (yes I know everybody else and their mother calls it the Festive Collection, but on my plate it says Christmas, so that is what I'm sticking to ;) )

Love this so much so here is some nail art spam:

It wasn't until today that I realised that today is actually Friday 13th and that I should have done something a little bit different than this, but then again - these are actually more to the point and seasonal than a F13 mani would have been.

Still can't help thinking how spectacular F13 nails could have been with Perceval as base. *note to self: must be used next time there is a Friday 13th...)

By the way I found a new font for my mobile camera pics which I like better than the one before. Much less "in-your-face".

And pardon my rough cuticles - the weather makes it almost impossible to keep moisturising enough for photos, they seem to swallow every drop of moisture and then look like they've not seen moisture in a fortnight...

Do you wear red all year long or are you like me - this is an extremely seasonal colour?

Remember to check out what kinds of red the rest of the girls are wearing this week.

Fancy Friday #27: Ikat Nail Art

I was a bit on the fence with this week's challenge and had a hard time finding colours for my mani that would make this one pop. Most of the tutorials and pictures you find if you do a search on Ikat nail art didn't really speak to me. So instead I made a search using the term Ikat pattern - and then the images got a lot more interesting.

And then I saw this pattern:

and thought: Hey I have polishes that matches these colours perfectly. And then it was basically just pulling out some brushes and stripe away...

I broke the nail off on my middle finger last week and the nail apparently decided to flake off a bit - which I didn't see until after I'd taken pictures.

They actually look a lot cooler in real life but I think you get the basic thought behind this.

I used the following colours:
a-england Galahad
Dior 438 Mango
Maybelline Colorama Urban Lemon
Dior 781 Purple Candy
nails inc floral street

Remember to check the other girls' nail art and find some inspiration for your own Ikat nail art.

Happy Birthday to the twins

A little personal post today and it will be short as well. Today six years ago my world changed up-side down when I gave birth to my lovely twin girls. And our lives have never been the same.

Their youngest cousin is born three days before them so we have made it a tradition to celebrate all three at the same day, it makes birthday celebrations a little less stressful and hectic. We held their party yesterday and today is more relaxed just the four of us. Right now they are watching Disney's Cinderella for the gazillionth time :D

What I wanted to share as well is the mani I made for their brithday celebration.
Since I had so much to do I decided on a fairly simple one and then make it a bit more festive with some glitter on top.

I don't do red often but I do have a couple for situations like this. Perceval from a-england has become my go-to red, it is stunningly beautiful!!! A-england polishes are always a good choice I still have to come across a dud formula on these, and I have quite the collection. They glide on like butter and are opaque in one coat, this one is no exception.

I've had Lynnderella One Nutty Fruitcake for almost two years and only swatched it on a nail wheel so I thought this was a good opportunity to get this out of the Helmer and show it off. This is one coat so there is good pay-off on this. I got this kind of coverage with very little effort, though I had to dabble a little.

I can see how bad my light is at my nail polish area because I TOTALLY missed the middle finger was that unevenly painted - many apologies :D

Stamping Saturday

So next up for Stamping day are Dragons!!! I love dragons and they are awesome creatures. I am a RolePlaying Gamer and one of my characters is a teenage wizard - an 18 year old girl who's mentally connected to a thousands-of-years-old dragon. Even got a custom made tote bag from Haut Totes with two Myka Jelina designs. A fairy that was so close visually to how I saw Aevilja and a marvellous dragon. How could I not get a custom bag made out of those images?

So when I was purchasing some new stamping plates from new-to-me Messy Mansion and saw this plate, I just had to have it.

So which colours to use? One of my nail polish friends was in that awesome RAOK I mentioned here and she sent me a long wanted China Glaze, Flying Dragon. Awesomeness in a bottle!!! Thank you Ana!! So this was a no brainer for base. And what to use to stamp with other than a-england Dragon and St. George. I still need to practice more, but I think these turned out nice.

These are taken in my bathroom under artificial light - so pardon the orangy fingers, and concentrate on the holo magnificense instead ;)

Here comes St. George to slay the dragon:

Look at that beautiful blue and pink shimmer in Flying Dragon!!!! And the dragon stamp is just mindblowingly awesome:

This is taken in my light box and shows the base colours of St. George and Dragon - but the holo effect got lost:

Indirect sunlight - and a GINORMOUS chip I hadn't seen until I cropped the picture, but I just love the way Flying Dragon looks here:

If you don't own Flying Dragon, you need to get it. It is just amazing. And if you stamp you better go buy some from Messy Mansion, her plates are to die for.
