Golden Oldie Thursday #32: On White Base

As soon as I saw Ms. Osborne in this dress I knew I wanted to do some nail art inspired by it - and then I realised that one of the August GOT challenge manis were going to be On a White Base...

Here is what I came up with - using nails inc. floral street as undies for Sealore Polish Beluga Blizzard. I free handed the time glass shape on my middle and ring finger and then taped the lower part. Then I put some black polish on a makeup sponge and just dapped away gently.

I cut out some triangular shapes that I taped on my little finger and dapped with a sponge applied with black polish.

On my index I used the "other" side of the triangular shapes I cut out, so my entire nail was covered with tape, except for the triangles - and dapped some black nail polish there as well ;)

Lastly I made a sort of yinyang swirl - it sort of seemed appropriate...

Hope you enjoyed these - I had a blast making them ;).

Fancy Friday #29: Copy That, Copy Cat

So today's challenge is copying someone else's manicure.

That was an easy choice. I love almost everything Jacki from Adventures in Acetone is doing and I've wanted to do one of her mani's in like forever. But I never got around to it so here was the perfect opportunity. Originally I was going to copy one of her animal manicures because they are way cute, but then I saw this in my bloglovin feed:

Besides this picture she also had an easy step-by-step tutorial that you can follow here.

You guys know how much I love Doctor Who and I think Adipose is soooo cute. So I just had to do this.

Take in to consideration that I rarely do nail art with my non dominant hand (and I thought this was a good way to practice my right hand) then it is actually not that bad, I think.

I used Cult Nails Time Traveller(!!!!) as base colour, nails inc. floral street for the Adipose, Cult Nails Nevermore for eyes and mouth and lastly I just needed some glitter as well and put on Sea Lore Beluga Blizzard on thumb and pinkie before I matted it.

Of course they are not nearly as perfect as Jacki's but I am actually quite satisfied with the result.

I urge you to give Jacki a follow she's an awesome nail artist and her tutorials are so easy to follow that you think while you do it: why didn't I try this one before?

And before you move on you should check out the other girls and what they've been up to with their copy catting skills.

Man er vel Doctor Who fan ;)

Fancy Friday #27: Ikat Nail Art

I was a bit on the fence with this week's challenge and had a hard time finding colours for my mani that would make this one pop. Most of the tutorials and pictures you find if you do a search on Ikat nail art didn't really speak to me. So instead I made a search using the term Ikat pattern - and then the images got a lot more interesting.

And then I saw this pattern:

and thought: Hey I have polishes that matches these colours perfectly. And then it was basically just pulling out some brushes and stripe away...

I broke the nail off on my middle finger last week and the nail apparently decided to flake off a bit - which I didn't see until after I'd taken pictures.

They actually look a lot cooler in real life but I think you get the basic thought behind this.

I used the following colours:
a-england Galahad
Dior 438 Mango
Maybelline Colorama Urban Lemon
Dior 781 Purple Candy

Remember to check the other girls' nail art and find some inspiration for your own Ikat nail art.

Fancy Friday #6: Inspired by a movie or a tv-series

So Hubby and I decided to go to Sweden for the weekend, we share a lovely house with my In-Laws in a small town with a lake nearby. It  is a place of tranquillity and a it is a lovely way for us to recharge our batteries and get through our hectic days. Which also mean so-so internet connection and this time the comp couldn't connect with the router - so this post is VERY late.

I had so many awesome ideas for this mani, but time was sparse so I got a bit challenged time wise. But then Hubby suggested doing the theme nodes for one of the most quintesential Danish film series ever: The Olsen Gang. The theme song sounds a little something like this:

I actually got the nodes from the composer's own page:

http://www.fabricius-bjerre.dk/noder/olsenbanden.pdf

I chose the first five nodes for obvious reasons and it ended up looking like this:

I won't lie - even with a nail art pen this turned out more difficult to make than I initially thought, but YAY for the BarryM nail art pen that Charlotte from Chakalacquer brought back for me when she was in London recently. I can highly recommend it if you find using a brush to make details more than just a little bit challenging!!

Posing to get the nodes in correct order also turned out to be rather problematic:

I was unable to align my thumb with the rest without loosing some of the image on it, and when I replaced it some of the image got out of focus:

Here my middle finger curls in and effs up the overall design :D :

And here it all just went to hell in a hand basket, focus wise:

But the good thing is: It looks cool when you see it from afar!!

Challenge Week 40: Animal Print Mani

This one has been decided by the twins - they think tigers are awesome so tiger print  it is :)

I looked at a lot of tutorials for this one and zebra and tiger stripes seem to be very close so I tried to capture the different colours of the tiger's fur to set it apart.

I sponged colours in spots on white base and did it random on each nail.

I used the following colours:
White: nails inc. floral st.
Yellow: nails inc. notting hill carnival
Orange: Zoya Arizona
Light brown: OPI Over the Taupe
Black: a-england Lancelot

They look better from a distance than what you see here but you get the concept :) Definitely fun to do so I think I'll do this again sometime - or I might even give leopard print a shot.

ID4

And as if I haven't blogged enough today...

Once more I have a group collaboration mani to show you. Originally I wasn't going to do anything July 4th on my blog, but I couldn't help myself when a ID4 group post was announced.

To celebrate ID4 I whipped out an OPI and a China Glaze and did a little something with them:

After that super elaborate Canada mani I needed something a little simpler

No amount of cream seemed to change the cuticle dryness

Colours used:
Blue: OPI Dating a Royal
Red: China Glaze Phat Santa
White: nails inc. floral st.
Silver: a-england Excalibur

Now go and check out the rest of the Independence Day Manicures out from my wonderful blogger friends.
