WellNails Slutty Pumpkin and The Slutty Pumpkin Returns. A Comparison.

It's no secret that I am a lover of indie polishes and have amassed quite an astounding number of them - and here in Denmark we also got on the band wagon last year when Charlotte founded WellNails, an indie brand that took it's inspiration from the American tv-series How I Met Your Mother.

Back in November last year I purchased the entire Christmas collection, that is how enamoured I became with the brand when I saw the first bottle shots and swatches that promised highly interesting and very unique glitter combinations. Besides the Christmas polishes I also bought one of the two Thanksgiving polishes: Slutty Pumpkin - I mean, who can resist a bottle of glitter with that name? Not me, anyway :D

Fast forward a year and WellNails has rebooted said polish, now called The Slutty Pumpkin Returns. So how do the two compare? Do you really need them both? Well stick around and see for yourself ;)

The Slutty Pumpkin Returns (left) and Slutty Pumpkin (right)
As you can see from the bottle shot there really is some rebooting going on - these two are definitely NOT alike! Me Like!!

Slutty Pumpkin: A glitter topper filled with green and orange hexes and topped up with micro glitter in orange and gold
I have Slutty Pumpkin on index and ring finger and The Slutty Pumpkin Returns on thumb, middle and little finger. One coat each, on top of Cult Nails Nevermore.

The Slutty Pumpkin Returns: Glitter topper filled with purple shreds, purple, green and orange hexes in different sizes and gold and orange tiny square glitter. And the biggest surprise: Pumpkin Glitter!!

There are very obvious differences: firstly the addition of purple hexes and shreds, as well as tiny gold and orange square glitter to The Slutty Pumpkin Returns. But there is also GLITTER PUMPKINS in it :O - such a lovely surprise. BUT it lacks the AWESOME micro glitter from Slutty Pumpkin - which really is a bit dissapointing to me, I really LOVE that about Slutty Pumpkin. But since there already is A LOT going on in TSPR it is perhaps for the best, it might have messed up the overall impression of the polish with it.

Formula wise they are both the usual perfect easy-to-work-with consistency that I love about WellNails, and the glitter pay-off is excellent!! You don't have to use the dabble technique with these - except for the pumpkins, they are scarse and you have to fish them out of the bottle and place them. Other wise they apply like butter.

These are definitely too different not to own both of and taking the manegebility in to consideration there really is no reason NOT to buy both if you like this kind of glitter topper.

Both polishes were purchased from Foxyfingertips.com where there is a select choice of WellNails polishes. If you'd like a wider range of the HIMYM polishes you can also stop by the WellNails storenvy shop.

Essence Gold Fever, Make it Golden and Gold Fever Comparison

Time for my second comparison post - I actually have a lot of polishes in my stash that would be fun to compare, so for this I decided to look at these lovely glitter polishes.

A couple of weeks ago my wonderful hubby went to Berlin and when he came back he'd brought back a couple of Essence polishes. One of them was called Gold Fever and my initial thought was, hey I have that one from before they revamped the bottle. But then I looked closer at the bottles and then I realised something was a bit off.

You can see here why:

Left: The Gold Fever I already own. Middle: The Gold Fever my hubby bought for me. Right: Make it Golden

As the more perceptive reader may have realised it looks more like the bottle on the right than the bottle on the left. So is it a new version of Make it Golden, since that one got discontinued when they revamped the bottles?

Now take a look at this:

Pinky: New Gold Fever. Ring: Old Gold Fever. Middle: New Gold Fever. Index: MiG

As you can see there is definitely the same red and golden microglitter in the new GF but it also has different sized golden hex glitter in it as well - just like Make it Golden. So no, they aren't dupes at all but the new Gold Fever is a mix of the two old, discontinued colours. Do I like it? Yes I do. Do I prefer it to the other two? Not really, there are oodles of different manis in these three polishes together, which is a total bonus.

What I don't like is when polish companies discontinue a colour, change the overall look of it and give it the same name as before. It creates unnecessary confusion. Just look at the OPI MPJ debacle - really not worth anybody's while!!!

Oh by the way: the blue polish is Southwark from nails inc. ;)

Girly Floam vs. Girls Rule Boys Drool

So here is a new type of post that I will do every once in a while. Comparison Posts :D.

Today I am looking at two polishes where the creators actually released promo pictures of their new girly polishes on the same day: Ninja Polish Girly Floam and Dollish Polish Girls Rule, Boys Drool.

Dollish Polish Girls Rule, Boys Drool(GRBD) was a very limited edition with only 400 bottles made that could be acquired through a raffle style sale. You signed up to get a bottle and then Dolly chose radomly who was going to get one. When you got your notification you then had 48 hours to pay your invoice or the polish would be raffled onwards to someone else. And I signed up for the raffle.

But since my life always seem to be very hectic my short term memory is working as bad as Dory's. So when Ninja Polish released their Girly Floam I went ahead and bought it /facepalm. And a week or so later I got confirmation that I had won the right to acquire GRBD - and since I was curious as to whether the two were real dupes I ended up buying it.

So here they are:

Girly Floam and Girls Rule, Boys Drool are filled with pink and dark lavendar matte glitter.

Pinky: Girly Floam, two coats over nails inc. floral street. With top coat.
Ring: GRBD, two coats over nails inc. floral street. With top coat.
Middle: Girly Floam, two coats. No top coat
Index: GRBD two coats. No top coat.

As you can see Girly Floam is way denser than GRBD. I would think you could get Girly Floam opaque in three layers while GRBD would take at least one layer more.

GRBD was thinner than Girly Floam but both seemed to pool the glitters when I applied them. They both behaved better with undies than without.

As mentioned earlier both polishes are with two layers - you'll get the same look from Girly Floam with one layer as two layers of GRBD give you.

They do dry slightly gritty but that can be remedied with either a glitter tamer or an extra layer of top coat. I just thought it would be nice for once to see how a glitter like this looks with only a regular layer of top coat.

If you'd like to get your hands on Girly Floam it is in stock at the Ninjas at the moment and if you're quick you can get it before US shipping rates rises on Sunday.
