Challenge Week 36: Tape Mani

Yesterday I realised I'd totally forgotten to post Challenge Week 36 - apparently I had a brain melt down over something :). So I'd better post this now:

As you can see my tapeskills have been vastly improved! Please refer to this disaster if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Some of you may notice this mani is on my left hand. I actually wore the red opposite my Dr. Who mani and just did the tape mani the day after - so I actually had this ready for photoing and posting the day it was supposed to go up. See, I told you I had a brain melt down!

This is nails inc. st. james's before the taping, a wonderful bluetoned red with a very slight shimmer that unfortunately is invisible unless there is bright sunshine. The application was ace, it is a one coater and levels out nicely. Dry time was average.

I've worn RBL Black Russian on two occasions, both times I was blown away be the intense red shimmer that this black polish has. The depth of this colour is out of this world and it is a breeze to work with. I also think it is a testament to it's awesomeness that it covers so well with one layer.

I think I'm gonna wear Black Russian sometime in the near future - I have fallen in love with it once more.

Challenge Week 35: Cupcake Mani

So I got up-to-date on my challenges...and almost instantly lost track and  got behind - again! But at least I've been posting other stuff.

The challenge for week 35 is cupcakes and since I am not a big fan of cupcakes I was a bit meh about this. But I have to say that this mani grew on me, I wore it for 4 days!! Kept going "Ah, too cute to remove, let me see if it'll last another day at work".

I bought pudding lane, one of the Sprinkles from nails inc. in July and thought it would be a very appropriate mani to use it for. I didn't want a girly cupcake mani and since the base colour is blue I thought some green might look good with it. I looked through my nails inc. stash and found three I liked the look of together with pudding lane: haymarket, spring mews and hyde park gate. Notice the green theme?

So here are my cup cakes ;)

I used hyde park gate as base colour, haymarket is the basis of the cup cake and I did the stripes with spring mews. pudding lane is somewhat obvious :D

And just for the fun of it I added a green heart shaped rhinestone on top.

I really like this mani, in fact so much I might do it again in the near future, but in purple the next time.

spring mews, hyde park gate, pudding lane and haymarket

Girly Bits Smurf Dance

Have I got a gorgeous nail polish to show you? Yes I have!!

I have been lucky enough to get my little paws on a soon-to-be released Limited Edition Girly Bits glitter bomb called Smurf Dance. Pam Heil from Girly Bits created it for the lovely Silver over at Silverinator - you can read all about how it came to be and watch the video of Silver's smurf dance here.

This is an absolutely to-die-for glitter polish if there ever was one, not only because of the complexity of the glitters - the application is one of the best I have come across. It is extremely well suspended and looks ahmazing both in the bottle and on your nails!!

It is not thick like many indie glitter bombs are, which makes it very easy to work with, no dabbing needed to get an even layer and no fishing for glitter either. You get a very decent amount of all the glitter types on the brush, and that means you can get away with just one layer if you use it as a top coat.

As for the glitters in it, there are holographic microglitter/shimmer, white matte hexes in different sizes, bars and squares, clear blue (smurf blue) microglitter/shimmer, hexes in three different sizes, bar glitter and squares (they may even be in two sizes). I also see darker blue glitters, but haven't been able to identify all of them.

This polish is very much a must-have if you are a glitter lover.

I decided to layer it over Cult Nails Tied Up which is the closest I have to a smurf blue polish, so it seemed very fitting that this should be undies for Smurf Dance.

In these pictures I am wearing 2 coats of Tied Up with 2 coats of Smurf Dance. Technically I didn't need the second coat but I loved the holographic shimmer so much I thought I'd put more on to get blinged out. Unfortunately I wasn't able to catch that crazy gorgeous shimmer :'(

Girly Bits polishes can be purchased at her own Big Cartel shop, though there are very few shades available right now - but Pam is planning a restock on September 15th so keep an eye on it!! You can also purchase them at Llarowe's where most of the available colours are in stock or at Harlow & Co. where all available colours are in stock.

Cult Nails polishes can be purchased at the cult shop, but unfortunately Tied Up was an extremely Limited Edition colour, and no longer available.

I hope you enjoyed looking at this as much as I enjoy wearing this combo

Doctor Who?

I am a huge Doctor Who fan - I remember back when I was a kid when DR, the Danish national tv station (yes we had monopoly on television in Denmark until 1989) ran the series with Tom Baker as the Doctor...scary stuff indeed when you are hardly 10!!!

Fast forward more than three decades and my hubby and I rather coincidentally stumble across the new series in 2006 - I am a huge fan of Christopher Eccleston already - and we get totally sucked in to the awesomeness of the story telling and the chemistry between The Doctor and his new Companion. Today six seasons later a lot has happened and the series has reached an epic following across the world. David Tennant is still sadly missed in this household, he more than took the role and filled the shoes after the enigmatic (in my view) performance of Christopher Eccleston. I still need to get used to Matt Smith, but he is definitely growing on me, his youth and bubbly persona ticks some of the right buttons.

And the Companions - oh the Companions...Rose is my true love, Billie Piper brought some lovely innocense that the Doctor was in much need of, Martha never caught me like Rose, but within her story arch she worked so well - and I totally miss Donna, that was a genius stunt Russell T. Davies pulled with her!! I am still on the fence with Amelia - but Rory really got to me.

And what may be the point of all this fan girl gushing? Well I am not the only Polish Blogger with a Doctor Who crush :D - so some of us decided we wanted to celebrate the return of the Doctor to our television screen, which premiered saturday, September 1. And here is my tribute to this amazing series:

Cult Nails has a navy blue polish, that was released as part of the Superpowers collection last fall, and though Maria Morrison had no clue about Doctor Who, she named it Time Traveller when someone told her that colour was the exact same colour of the Tardis - too cool and of course I had to use it as my base colour.

This baby is a one coater if you concentrate and make an effort, but I was a little shaky during application, so I did two coats.

Since it has been established on several occasions that I suck mucho at free hand nail art, I once more decided to do decals which I think turned out okay. I drew the Tardis and the Weeping Angel on a small zip lock bag and traced it afterwards.

And no Doctor Who mani without The Doctor's Arch Nemesis: The Dalek. Here just manifested in gray dots with golden-yellow centers.

The Weeping Angels are still some of the creepiest and scary antagonists of the Doctor Who universe, they scare the s*** out of me, and I watch horror movies for crying out loud!!!

Close Up of Tardis...annoying that my top coat dragged the design even though it was totally dry before I applied it to my nail.

Wow, this was a winded post - hopefully you are still hanging in there ;)

Just for the fun of it you should go visit my blogger friends, they all have AWESOME nail art and polishes to show you.
