Fancy Friday #54: Black/White

So the first thing I thought of when I saw this week's challenge were these guys:

For those not in the know, these two rather sinister looking fellas are White Spy and Black Spy, two characters in the wordless comic Spy vs. Spy thought up by cuban political cartoonist Antonio Prohìas. They were featured in the American magazine MAD, a political satire cartoon magazine that had it's peak here in Denmark in the late 70's and through the early to mid 80's.

My Dad was a huge fan as was most of my parents' friends so they were easy to come by for me, and I read them time and time again with all the wonder that a kid who is hardly old enough to grasp the satire and social critique inherent in the 70's liberal cartoon tradition can muster.

Spy vs. Spy was one of my favourites - basically a recurring fight between the two spies where they try to kill each other in fantastically inventive ways.

So here is my tribute to that amazeballs cartoon.

I am really happy with these and loved the trip down memory lane I got to take while doing them. And remember to check out all the other black/white manis.

Uha jeg har glædet mig til at vise de her frem - jeg har været helt oppe og ringe for denne her ide. Sort vs. Hvid var en af mine favorittegneserier fra Mad Magazine som havde sin storhedstid her i Danmark i 70'erne og start til midt 80'erne. Jeg elskede at læse dem og havde nem adgang til dem fordi min far var stor fan. Og de her to (selv)morderiske spioner var mine absolutte favoritter.

Golden Oldie Thursday #18: Neon

Time to give some love to my older polishes, this week I have been searching for neons. I don't have many and some are too new to be a part of this challenge...but these babies here fit the bill perfectly. Some I've had for two years others for one year.

And the neons are:

I love Aleta's polishes, they are gorgeous and easy to work with. These babies are jellies so I highly recommend you use a white polish as base.

I love that they all have micro glitter in them as well:

Apple and Orange are insanely neon and are quite hard to catch in pictures.

One of my co-workers actually commented on these and asked me if I'd done my nails like the Ice Truck Killer from Dexter - that made me grin, since it's a guy :D, not to mention the fact I'm a pink and yellow short of it being ITK nails ;)

So now all I need is some sun...

Fancy Friday #53: Happy 1st Birthday

Last week saw the first year of Fancy Friday passing by and who'd have thunk I would still be here?

I certainly wouldn't have thought that a year ago. Which is why I really had a celebration on my nails. Bring out the bubbly and confetti!!!!

I love MoyouLondon plates, I have a couple with XL patterns on and they are simply way too large for my nails which makes it hard for me to align the patterns properly. So I chose to do reverse stamping instead and then cut the designs out to fit my nails.

Which is why my middle finger looks particularly lumpy -  one big design cut down to three small images that are then placed on my nail. But that also means there is a lot of excess dried top coat that has a tendency to lump together when the final layer of top coat is applied.

I really enjoyed making these though they do take some extra time and effort. Despite of the lumpiness of the mani I am quite satisfied with the outcome, it looks almost like I envisioned it.

Fælles Fredag holdt 1 års fødselsdag i sidste uge, og jeg måtte altså fejre at jeg har holdt på i et helt år, dog med en del forsinkelser på mine indlæg de sidste uger. Så det blev fyrværkeri, champagne og serpintiner der kom på neglene :D

Fancy Friday 52: Holo Madness

I had this challenge ready picture wise for publishing on the day but I had had a busy couple of days that got in the way of writing up the post which was a bummer since we had awesome sunny weather - and then it wasn't going to be any less busy in my life for another week and a half so I almost decided on not show you what I wore...but these nails were too crazy not to get posted so here I am ;)

I actually wore two different holographic manis that friday since I couldn't choose. One with Elevation Polish Vinson and one with Lilypad Lacquer Purple People Eater:

I wanted to stamp with Elevation Polish Haleakala but it turned out to be jelly like in consistancy so it didn't stamp well - but goddammit it's holo when used with a nail art brush. I just did some random patterns which actually turned out okay.

Look at that rainbow:

Vinson is one of the most crazy gorgeous polishes I own, it is a Lilac foil metallic holographic and it is made of win and awesome!!!

 

I tried to stamp the Lilypad as well with Elevation Polish Darkest Storm but that one was as jelly as Haleakala so that one didn't work either:

The dark blue and the holo effect never translated to the nail - but it did stamp beautiful here but not what was intended.

Darling Diva Polish the Opals Collection part 2: Teal and Sea Moss Green

Second part of the Darling Diva Opals are the beautiful and quite Me colours Teal and Sea Moss Green.

First up is Sea Moss Green, a quite stunning rich green that had me thinking of the lake at Hogwarts that Harry dives in to for the second Tri-Wizard Tournament challenge.

Packed with the same iridescent mylar flakes and sea blue hex glitters as the two previous polishes, here they are in a moss green jelly like polish base that delivers a sense of deep lakes surrounded with greenery, with lilypads flowing around hiding a more sinister deep. I am totally in love with this polish.

This base is like the first two, very jelly like so I used three very thin layers to reach this opacity. It was a bit on the thick side but definitely not too unmanageble.

Remember to let it dry between layers so not to drag the flakes through the polish. And remember that these polishes eat top coat for breakfast so you need a glitter tamer like Gelous or several layers of top coat to get an even surface.

Second is Teal Opal - the name really gives it away :D, a teal blue jelly polish that also need three thin layers for this particular look. As with the green there was some thickness to the polish and if you want to be sure to get a more manageable consistency you could add a few drops of thinner.

Surprisingly enough it has a very delicate feel to it when on your nails which I really didn't expect when I saw it in the bottle.

Since the flakes and glitters are more in-tone in this than in Sea Moss Green it doesn't come off as interesting as the partner but it has its own beauty to it.

It is amazing how the jelly base give the polishes the look of the flakes being suspended in several layers on your nail - an absolutely unique look that I don't think I have in my collection. The only thing near this is my Cult Nails Clairvoyant but I haven't worn it in a long time and I don't recall it as giving off quite the same effect.

Fancy Friday #51: Easter Nails

Whoa, I just realised we are only two weeks away from our One Year Anniversary here at the Fancy Friday blogger team. It's been great so far and to think I've actually done most of the nail art though sometimes a bit later than friday is quite a feat in itself - and I am quite chuffed about it!!

Well on to today's mani which is an Easter Mani. As I wrote yesterday I did some cute easter nail art for the Digital Dozen easter nail art contest so even though I wanted to use it for this post I found it a bit of a cheat if I just reused it.

I did a very simple but eastery mani for this challenge - though I could have challenged myself more here - but I really love this combination, and I hope you enjoy them as well.

The intended look for these nails are easter eggs and I think it worked VERY well :)

The polishes used are:
Elevation Polish Wisteria
Elevation Polish Alphubel
Elevation Polish Jengish Chokusu
Elevation Polish Cuernos del Paine
Elevation Polish Mount Yu
And the were all topped off with Elevation Polish Plumeria

This turned out so much more festive than I thought it would, I really adore it - and with all polishes from Elevation they were a breeze to apply - though I did use slight dapping to place the circle glitters from Plumeria a bit more even than they flow out on the nail when you apply it.

I also did a couple of macros - just because ;)

Så er der dømt påske på bloggen. Jeg har deltaget i Digital Dozen's nail art konkurrence og fik en delt førsteplads, yay mig ;) - men jeg synes det var snyd at genbruge den mani til Fælles Fredag, så jeg lavede de her MEGET simple negle, som minder om påskeæg - det synes jeg ihvertfald de gør :D.
